About
A hero shooter with MOBA elements, launched three weeks before Overwatch. Campaign and multiplayer both required live servers.
What happened
Battleborn launched on May 3 2016, three weeks before Overwatch. 2K later converted it to free to play. Support notices set a January 2021 server close; 2K's article listed January 31.
PC Gamer reported on February 1 2021 that Gearbox had pulled the plug. Because every mode needed authentication, owners lost campaign access as well as multiplayer. No public development budget was disclosed.
