About Us
WhatALaunch is an independent game analytics website for gamers and streamers. It turns data like peak concurrent players, reviews, price, release timing, and momentum, into a fast read on whether a game is “hot or a flop”.
What is WhatALaunch
WhatALaunch is a game analytics website. Each title gets the same treatment: a Breakout score from 0 to 100, launch status labels, player trends, review sentiment, Twitch activity, and hardware-aware FPS estimates. The page is built to answer one question quickly: buy now, wait, or avoid the game.
It is not a review blog, not a publisher newsletter, and not a paid ranking. If a release is flopping, the numbers will tell you. Hidden gems and breakout hits show up the same way.
Why it was created
Launch week on Steam is loud on purpose. Trailers, store featuring, wishlists, and influencer codes can make a dead-on-arrival game look like an event. A current-player chart by itself, or a review score with no volume, does not answer the question people actually have like “is this launch really GOOD?”
I built WhatALaunch for people who actually play, and for streamers who need to know what is worth covering before they burn time and money on a title that already peaked. Peak players, reviews, price, and momentum belong in one place so you can decide in minutes, not after the fact.
The other reason is accountability. When publishers ship obvious money grabs, abandon paid games, or shut down always-online titles and leave buyers with nothing usable, that should be visible. Hall of Shame exists for those cases. Underperformance for ordinary reasons is reported too. Same data rules for everyone no matter how big the publisher or the developer is.
Who created WhatALaunch
WhatALaunch is a solo, independently operated project. One person designs it, writes the scoring, runs the Steam ingest, and pays the hosting. There is no studio, no publisher funding, and no growth team buying rankings.
I am a gamer first. I wanted an honest launch website and could not find one that mixed live player data, review quality, launch risk, and “will this run on my PC?” in a single workflow. So I built it. You can read about it more in the FAQ.
Updates go out on X @WhatALaunch. If the site saves you a bad purchase or a wasted stream, you can support the server costs & hosting.
Thank you very much for your support.
